Ripon’s Plan Commission is recommending amending a city ordinance regarding membership on the city’s Historic Preservation Commission.

The Plan Commission held a public hearing for the proposed ordinance amendment last night. No members of the public were there to speak on it. The Historic Preservation Commission is supposed to have eight members, but currently has two vacancies.

Common Council member John Splitt chairs the Historic Preservation Commission. He said it is hard to get members for the commission from Ripon. He agreed with the proposed changes which would reduce membership to 7 members and allow non-residents who own property within the Watson Street Historic District to serve on the commission.

Plan Commission member Luke Dretske felt the Historic Preservation Commission should have no more than 3 non-member property owners.

The Plan Commission unanimously approved recommending the amended ordinance to the Common Council for their approval. The ordinance is part of the city’s Municipal Zoning Code.
