4K student dies after incident with school bus in Waukesha County

A Waukesha County student died after an incident with a school bus in the parking lot on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at the Silver Spring Intermediate School, part of the Hamilton School District, in Sussex. The student was a 4K student who was transferring to a shuttle bus to be taken to Willow Springs Learning Center, according to district officials.

The bus was carrying students when the incident occurred, authorities said.

Paul Mielke, district superintendent, said resources will be on hand to help provide support to students and staff.

“We understand tragedy is sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school community, especially our students,” Mielke said. “

District officials say they’re not sharing additional information at this time out of respect for the victim’s family.

Officials with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of the incident is still under investigation. They said bus driver is “cooperating fully with the investigation.”
